the best news I heard all day

One minute we were running around our neighborhood on base in Okinawa, Japan. Nine years old, not a care in the world other than homework or getting home for dinner before the sun went down each night.  The next thing you know, more than twenty years have passed and I'm driving up to Virginia to take maternity pictures of my childhood friend, Sean and his gorgeous wife, Megan. It's so crazy how this world works sometimes...

Today I saw the best news I had heard all day via Facebook...

"4.27.11
Lincoln James
7lbs 8 oz"

Sean, Megan + Lincoln,
Congratulations!
I'm so so so happy for all of you.
I can only imagine all of the wonderful things you three have in store for you. I wish you all the best,
Tiff

Love Mpix!

Woohoo! New business cards are here!

Can I just say, I looooooove Mpix.com so much?
They make it so easy to order great products, whether marketing material, beautiful albums or gorgeous beyond gorgeous prints. Love!

I wanted a card that represents where I want to go with my business.
I wanted to show that my work is striving to capture the beautiful simplicity of everyday life
I hope my clients can feel how I adore those amazing moments that happen every single day all around you, how I am using my lens as a way to hit the "pause" button, if only for a moment, so that you don't miss a thing.
I want my images to capture new life, new beginnings, the love I see in the little things.

What do you think?

Next up, brochures from Mpix to be delivered next week. Mailing them out to my Tampa clients as soon as they hit my mailbox. Can't wait to see everyone again! I can't believe how big all of their children have gotten in just one short year, I am so excited to get back and take a million pics of them!

Poor camera doesn't know what she's in for ;)

While I'm on the topic of mpix, look what an AMAZING job they did with one of my larger prints!!!

The colors are dead on, the image is crisp and gorgeous! So happy with their company!!!

Be THIS happy!

Dear Shelly,

Wishing you THIS much happiness on your birthday and everyday. I am glad that we've gotten to know each other more over the years and I am so happy that my Dad is lucky enough to have a person like you in his life. I hope this year brings a multitude of blessings your way!

Happy Birthday,

Love,

Tiff, Thor + Brandon

"You are you, now isn't that pleasant?" -Dr. Seuss

(sigh)
I refuse to believe it.
Nope.
Not gonna.
How can I when it seems like only yesterday we were getting to know each other for the first time?
You toddled around on the warm summer sand on Anna Maria Island at our very first photo shoot, and this is the face you gave me-

Simply beautiful.
And today, you turn two...Time flies when you're having fun!
Brinley, I can't wait to see you on my next trip to Florida. This time as a happy little two year old!!!
Happy Birthday!

(Okay, how CUTE are her outfits? Our 2nd shoot in the fall)

Sunshine, Sea + Wild Air

"Live in the sunshine, swim in the sea and drink the wild air"
-Ralph W. Emerson

Do you ever stop and wonder why you are living the life you are living? On days when everything seems to be going just right, do you think to yourself "How did I get so lucky?"

My grandparents were such great people. In my eyes, I saw them as people very much in love after many years of marriage, people who were always off to experience some new travel adventure, who always had a word of good advice that was something worth remembering.

My Mom and Dad showed me the meaning of always going into a job or decision giving 110% percent, minimum. What's the point of doing something if you're not going to give it your all? We grew up a military family, traveling around the world and I feel like my brother, Brandon, and I drew so many benefits from that way of life.

And that's just what I mean... how did I get so LUCKY?

I traveled the world before the age of 13, visiting and living in parts of Europe and Asia, seeing things that some will never have the opportunity to see in an entire lifetime.

I traveled all over the US, falling in love with many different cities and states along the way, meeting people who continue to illustrate the pages of my life's story...

My grandparents owned two homes, one in Maryland, one in North Carolina. Both of which they paid for in full after years of careful planning and investing. They were amazing... my idols, in many ways.

My Dad has been patient enough to let Thor and I live in that same North Carolina home, our family's vacation home, while we save up for a home of our own. Not all parents would do that, but the amount of stability it's allowed me as far as financial planning and organizing my thoughts on the next business steps for my photography career has been immeasurable and I am forever thankful for these moments here.

In the next few months, we will be hoping to give back by organizing and beautifying this home, making it the best beach house for our family to vacation in  for many years to come. I can't wait to get started on the home improvements! So excited about having some of our photos printed out and framed for the walls. I hope this house feels like home for everyone who walks in the door, because it's always felt that way for me... even as a military brat whose address changed every two years or so, this was always home.

I'm heading out to the dock today, feeling very lucky to have the chance to do so, appreciative for every single thing that comes my way... even the challenges, they've proven to be some of my best motivations through the years!
(wouldn't be summer without more freckles than cheek space, right?)

They say it's your birthday!

Sass.
I think that's really the only word for it... sass, sass, sass!
And in the best of ways, Avia is that word personified!
Have you ever met someone who has that certain sparkle in their eyes, that look in their eyes like they are about to let you in on a really fabulous joke? It's a look that lets you know that you are in the presence of someone who may very well rule the world one day, and Avia has that look down pat.

Happy Birthday, Avia! You are so loved!

something old, something new...

Look how happy they are! Ali, the pretty blonde + Malia, the pretty brunette were caught sharing a laugh at our friend Abby's wedding last May. I started working with them only a little over a month prior to this, when Abby found out I was a photographer and asked me (on quite a leap of faith) to photograph her wedding. I was terrified, but also confident that I could capture Abby's wedding for her. I am so thankful to Abby + Scott for taking a chance with me, especially on one of the biggest days of their lives. And just look at the doors that have opened to me because of that one day...

In just two weeks, Ali will be getting married and I have also been hired to photograph HER wedding! I'm so excited for her! Once again, I'm terrified, but I think that just means I'm human. What normal human being wouldn't be nervous about the responsibility of  being a wedding photographer? I'm not afraid that I cannot do the job, I am not afraid of making a mistake or somehow missing some critical moment. I raise my expectations of my own abilities every single time I pick up my camera, and I want to deliver the best photographs I've ever taken EVERY, SINGLE, TIME I take a new photo. That fear that I will somehow come face to face with my own limits is the SAME motivation that I use to continually grow as a photographer, to take one step closer to my goals... I really love my job.

Ali, I promise that I will do my very best to give you my absolute best and then some! And I couldn't be happier for you! Two weeks, Lady :) Can't wait!

birthday pup

Can someone answer me this: when exactly did those little gray whiskers show up on our puppy's mug??? Scout turns 11 this week. What a handsome devil he is! Scout, here's to lots of beach walks and Frosty Paw frozen treats, sneaking over to sleep on my pillow in the middle of the night, making your Chewbacca noises, and to all the happiness in your future! We love you little pup xoxo

Scout, you are SUCH a good boy!
